Nick & Jerome

Meet Nick (white) and Jerome (brown). Back in January these two found their way onto the Maumee River and became stranded on thin, melting ice. We named them in honor of our veterinarian who bravely went out onto that thawing ice to gain their trust and bring them to safety. Check out the whole story here.

Nick is the social butterfly of the pair. Outgoing, affectionate, and always ready to soak up attention and ear scritches. He’s the first to lean in for pets and the quickest to say YES PLEASE to a cuddle.

Jerome is more reserved and thoughtful though he has really started to blossom the last few weeks. He needs some time to trust, but once you earn it, his affection is incredibly special. He’s the kind of dog who chooses you — and that kind of bond is worth every second spent. 

While Nick and Jerome can be adopted separately, it’s impossible not to notice how deeply connected they are, every time they see each other. After everything they have been through, they find comfort in each other’s company, read cues from one another, and clearly feel safest when they’re together. Jerome is much more confident with his “brother” to show him the world is not a scary place. They survived the ice as a team and now they’re just waiting for a home where they can finally relax and start enjoying life together.
