Canine Control

Lucas County Canine Care & Control is responsible for enforcing Chapter 955 of the Ohio Revised Code.

We have five Canine Control Officers who provide services to the community.

These officers investigate dog bites, respond to reports of dogs running loose or injured dogs, pick up found dogs and transport them to the shelter, seek medical care for sick or injured dogs, and much, much more.

Report a Dog Running Loose

If you would like to report a dog running loose, a dog bite or unlicensed dogs, please call our office at 419-213-2800.

Local Dog Related Ordinances

The following is a collection of dog related ordinances for municipalities within Lucas County. Most local ordinances must be enforced by the appropriate municipal law enforcement agency. Canine Control Officers do not have the ability to charge citizens with violations of these laws. If you have further questions regarding any of these ordinances, please contact the municipality directly. These are simply a collection of ordinances for viewer information and may not reflect new changes in code.

State Laws

The Ohio Revised Code has laws regarding dogs running loose, dog licenses and nuisance, dangerous and vicious dogs outlined in Chapter 955. This is the section of the Code that our Canine Control Officers enforce.

Ohio Revised Code Chapter 959 covers animal cruelty and neglect and is enforced by Humane Agents, locally by the Toledo Area Humane Society.
