All dogs over three months of age must have a new license every year by January 31. Dog licenses go on sale December 1st for the following year. The license must be purchased immediately after you acquire a dog or move your owned dog into Ohio. Every registered dog must wear a valid license tag at all times.
For a listing of places where you can purchase your dog license, please view the current listing of Dog License Registration Agents. We sell dog licenses in our office, of course, but you can also visit one of the many vendors around the County! Dog licenses can even be purchased online! Also be sure to utilize the rewards program and see which local businesses offer discounted services for licensed dogs. Click here.
Your dog’s license is his ticket home. If we pick up a dog wearing a current Lucas County dog license, we will even drive it home to you! Licensing your dog is required by law. If a dog wearing a license is turned into the Canine Care & Control office, the owner will be notified either in person or by phone, and certified mail. Without a license, after three days stray dogs begin the evaluation process for both behavior and medical aspects of adoptability and can be adopted or euthanized.
