Lucas County Canine Care & Control (LC4) is hosting a holiday season adoption special. From December 12 through December 19, the adoption fee will be waived for those who adopt a dog six months or older.
In return, LC4 is asking adopters to donate a new, unwrapped toy for WTOL’s Gift of Joy toy drive, which benefits Lucas County Children Services. The agency has expressed a specific need for donations of baby dolls representing children of all races and ethnicities.
“This adoption event is a wonderful way for our community to come together and spread joy both to dogs in need of a loving home and the children in the care of Lucas County Children Services who need a little extra holiday cheer,” the Lucas County Commissioners said in a joint statement. “We hope that by waiving the adoption fee we can make it easier for families to welcome a dog into their home while also making a positive impact on the community through the toy drive.”
The adoption of any dog from LC4 requires the purchase of a dog license ($25 in Lucas County), which is valid through December 31, 2025.
Dogs adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, dewormed, have a negative heartworm test, and are current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
LC4 currently has 180 dogs in its care and more than 80 dogs and puppies who are ready for adoption. The public can visit them at 410 S. Erie St. during adoption hours: Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
